Duc Thanh School is located in the center of Phan Thiet city, by the Ca Ty River. It is a historical site marking the period when President Ho Chi Minh, then known as Nguyen Tat Thanh, stopped to teach from September 1910 to February 1911.
Duc Thanh School was established and operated from 1907 to 1912 as a private school with progressive teaching content for its time. The school primarily taught the Vietnamese Quoc Ngu script, along with Chinese characters, French, and physical education. The teaching staff consisted of seven teachers, with the principal being Nguyen Quy Anh, and the youngest teacher being Nguyen Tat Thanh. At its peak, the school had about 50-60 students, divided into four classes: Fourth, Third, Second, and First. Teacher Thanh mainly taught physical education and sports, and also assisted with the teaching of Quoc Ngu and Chinese characters.
With dedication and care, teacher Nguyen Tat Thanh not only imparted cultural knowledge but also inspired a sense of patriotism in his students before heading to Saigon. Although his teaching period there was brief, teacher Thanh left a lasting impression on the hearts of both students and colleagues at Duc Thanh School, through his love, ethics, lifestyle, and teaching methods.
Duc Thanh School was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism) on December 12, 1986.
