DIRECTIVE FROM PHONG DIEN DISTRICT PARTY COMMITTEE  

Directive on the funeral of President Ho Chi Minh in 1969  

On September 5, 1969, the Party, National Assembly, and the Government of Vietnam officially announced the passing of beloved President Ho Chi Minh. During the week of mourning, the Standing Committee of the Phong Dien District Party issued Directive No. 14T/C regarding President Ho Chi Minh’s funeral. This directive, dated September 8, 1969, was the first to inform all Party branches and members in the district about the sad news of the President's passing.

The directive currently preserved at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Thua Thien Hue is the subsequent directive issued by the Phong Dien District Party Committee, released right after the mourning week. It emphasized: “The policy is to launch a Party development campaign in September 1969, with the aim of recruiting more members and achieving the highest accomplishments in memory of President Ho Chi Minh.”

At that time, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Tam, who was the Secretary of the Phong Binh Commune Party Cell, also played a vital role as a host for revolutionaries, particularly the district’s Standing Committee members who operated secretly in his family home. He received the directive and was responsible for disseminating it to all Party members and the public. Mr. Nguyen Hoai Tam carefully preserved this document, which is now considered the first written material collected by the Museum related to the mourning of President Ho Chi Minh in Thua Thien Hue. The artifact was cataloged on June 15, 2005.
