THE PORTRAIT OF PRESIDENT HO CHI MINH
Presented by President Ho Chi Minh to Mr. Nguyen Phi Phung in 1967
Mr. Nguyen Phi Phung was born in 1925 in Le Xa Dong, Phu Vang, Thua Thien Hue.
From 1945 to 1954, he was actively involved in the national youth resistance and militia, holding the position of Village Militia Leader. After 1954, he regrouped to the North and joined the army as a Company Commander of Regiment 269 and later led food production efforts to support the front lines.
On May 19, 1958, in celebration of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, soldiers of Regiment 269, alongside the Red Flag Youth of Nam Dinh province, worked on building dikes, reclaiming coastal lands in Nghia Hung district, and establishing the Rang Dong farm.
Mr. Nguyen Phi Phung was appointed leader of the regiment’s duck-raising team, where he introduced an innovative method of feeding the ducks with "ngan" tubers to save rice, while still ensuring their healthy growth. In 1967, as an exemplary soldier, he was sent to Hanoi to report his achievements and had the honor of meeting President Ho Chi Minh at the Presidential Palace.
President Ho warmly embraced him and encouraged, "You are good! Keep promoting small livestock farming," before gifting him a portrait of himself. This gesture illustrated the deep concern the leader had for even the smallest tasks in the lives of the people.
Mr. Nguyen Phi Phung donated the portrait to the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Thua Thien Hue on March 23, 1998.
