Command Headquarters of the Campaign to Liberate Tri Thien discussed plans to free Tri Thien Hue
In February 1975, under authorization from the Politburo, the Central Military Commission’s Standing Committee established the Party Committee of the Tri Thien Front, led by members from the Standing Committees of the Tri Thien Regional Committee, the Tri Thien Military Region, and the 2nd Corps. Comrade Le Tu Dong, the Regional Committee Secretary, was appointed Secretary of the Front’s Party Committee.
Militarily, the Central Military Commission assigned the General Command and General Staff to directly oversee the military region and corps in carrying out tactical operations. The General Command also instructed the military region and corps to proactively complete battlefield preparations and tactical coordination by March 4, 1975, with no exceptions for delays.
The General Command hastened the organization of the Hue-Da Nang Campaign, aiming to deploy the 2nd Corps and the Tri Thien Military Region to eliminate the 1st Infantry Division and remaining marine forces, thereby cutting off the enemy’s retreat to Da Nang.
On the night of March 19, 1975, the Tri Thien Regional Committee and Military Region’s Standing Committee met, finalizing a comprehensive offensive and uprising strategy to liberate Thua Thien-Hue through a total combined assault.
