President Ho Chi Minh and Mr.Nguyen Van Hieu
On October 20, 1962, a delegation from the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, led by Professor Nguyen Van Hieu, met with President Ho Chi Minh. In a profoundly emotional atmosphere, Ho Chi Minh embraced Nguyen Van Hieu and inquired in detail about the lives, morale, and challenges faced by the people of South Vietnam. In response, Nguyen Van Hieu, speaking on behalf of the southern delegates, reported the situation to the President and presented gifts from the southern people. These gifts included a copy of the Front's Charter, a collection of poems by a patriotic martyr, a photo album of protest movements, and a vase crafted from an American artillery shell casing.
As Ho Chi Minh accepted these symbolic gifts, he was deeply moved. He placed his hand over his heart and said, “I have nothing material to send to the people of the South, but their beloved image is always in my heart.” This heartfelt sentiment underscored Ho Chi Minh’s unwavering connection with the people of South Vietnam, embodying his dedication to the struggle for national unification.
