Hue – Da Nang Campaign
On March 21, 1975, Army Corps 2 (Divisions 324 and 325) launched a coordinated offensive against the enemy's defense network south of Thua Thien Hue, officially initiating the Hue - Da Nang Campaign. On the first day, Vietnamese forces dismantled the enemy's defensive line at Phu Loc, bombarded Phu Bai Airport, Tay Loc, and the I Corps Command Headquarters at Mang Ca, captured Huong Dien District, pursued the enemy to Thuan An, decimated the defense line along the Bo River, and seized other strategic locations within Hue City.
Under the leadership of district and city committees, local party cells, administrative bodies, and task forces, the people of Thua Thien Hue quickly assumed governance. By 6:30 AM on March 26, 1975, the liberation flag flew proudly atop the Phu Van Lau flag tower, symbolizing the full liberation of Thua Thien Hue. This region subsequently became a vital rear base supporting the continued offensive to liberate Da Nang and other southern provinces.
