Quoc trieu khoa bang luc
Records the name of Nguyen Sinh Huy (father of President Hồ Chí Minh) passing the Pho bang examination in 1901.
Quoc trieu khoa bang luc was compiled by Dong cac Dai hoc hoc si Cao Xuan Duc (1843-1923) and contains records of various imperial examinations, listing the names and hometowns of all candidates who passed as Doctorate and Junior Doctor under the Nguyen Dynasty. The records span from the Thi Hoi (pre-court examination) in the year Nham Ngo (1822), during the reign of Emperor Minh Mạng, to the final examination in the year Ky Mui (1919), under the reign of Emperor Khai Dinh.
One significant entry, found on page 82, refers to the Thi Hoi of the year Tan Suu, in the 13th year of Emperor Thanh Thai’s reign (1901). It notes that the Chief Examiner, Cao Xuan Duc, requested that those who passed the Pho Bang (Junior Doctor) examination be awarded ceremonial robes and horses for their return to their home villages. This was the same examination where Nguyen Sinh Huy (the father of President Ho Chi Minh) passed as a Pho Bang and was honored with a royal mandate and banners as he returned to his village in celebration of his academic success.
