THE HANDKERCHIEF EMBROIDERED WITH THE WORDS "A GIFT FROM UNCLE HO"
President Ho Chi Minh presented to Mr. Nguyen Uy in 1957
Mr. Nguyen Uy, a native of Phong Binh Commune, Phong Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province, joined the liaison force in the resistance against the French in January 1949, operating in the Hoa My and Duong Hoa military zones of Thua Thien Hue. In July 1954, he regrouped to the North and worked at the Nghe An Post Office before continuing his service at the Lao Cai Post Office. With outstanding achievements, he was named an emulation soldier for two consecutive years (1951-1952). In 1961, President Ho Chi Minh awarded him the Third-Class Resistance Medal.
In 1957, Nguyen Uy received a handkerchief as a gift from President Ho Chi Minh, which was presented by the Nghe An Police Department to the outstanding soldiers, cadres, and people of Region IV during the President's visit to his homeland.
He carefully kept this handkerchief throughout his career. After 1975, Mr. Nguyen Uy returned to Hue and worked at the Provincial Post Office. The handkerchief, with the words "A Gift from Uncle Ho" embroidered on it, was respectfully displayed in the traditional room of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Post Office. It was later transferred to the Ho Chi Minh Museum of Thua Thien Hue, where it has been on display since March 14, 2000.
