The embroidered pillowcase by Ms. Nguyen Thi Ruong
The pillowcase was hand-sewn and embroidered by Nguyen Thi Ruong, a former political prisoner, during her imprisonment in the "hell on earth" of Con Dao. Despite enduring physical and mental torment inflicted by the enemy, she remained steadfast, upholding her will to fight, refusing to surrender, and maintaining faith in a brighter future of peace and national unity.
On one side of the pillowcase, she embroidered the letters: E A C D B G P Y K R T Q, symbolizing the phrase:
"We, your brothers and sisters, await Uncle Ho's liberation. Even in weakness, we will not abandon our homeland."
She also included two poetic lines:
"Our dear mother awaits her child joyfully,
For their return to a peaceful homeland."
On another side, she embroidered a landscape of Con Dao and the phrase: "In memory of the days of hardship.".
Through the harshness of war and imprisonment, the romantic spirit and exceptional craftsmanship of resilient women from Hue, like Nguyen Thi Ruong, left an indelible mark, offering an everlasting spiritual legacy for future generations.
